We have about twenty fully qualified RYA Dinghy Instructors and Assistant Instructors, who provide a high level of Sail Training at the club

We run courses for both youngsters and adults as follows:,

Mondays: The under 15's learn to sail Stages 1-3 of the Young Sailors' Scheme.

Tuesdays: Teenage improvers and the junior Squad follow stage 4 and seminar courses.

Thursdays: Adults learn to sail and improve in the RYA Scheme:

Dinghy Day Sailing
Dinghy Start Racing

We use a variety of dinghy classes for the RYA Sail Training at Penarth Yacht Club, depending on the age and experience of the trainees. Amongst the classes used are

Optimist Class
We have 12 of this class, which  is designed  to introduce young children aged from about 8 to 10  to the pleasures of sailing. Training takes place on nearby Cosmeston lake from May to October on Saturday mornings.

Mirror Class
The 9 Mirror class dinghies are used for youngsters and adults in the earliest stages of their sailing instruction. They are Ideally suited to gaining confidence in both crewing and helming.

Topper Class
Our 9 Toppers are used for youngsters and adults in the later stages of their RYA training, to teach single handed sailing.
