Cruiser racing
is run by Cardiff Bay Yacht Club. We use the
flat waters east of Penarth Pier and from time to
time race up to Bristol or down to Swansea. We
cater for all types of cruiser/racers from sports
boats (we have 4 Cork 1720s), to IRC cruisers
ranging from 1.017 to 0.860 split into two
classes. The PYC club start line on the Esplanade is
normally used for racing except for regattas and
Open Meetings when committee boat starts take
place in the Bristol Channel off Penarth. Let us
just say that the tides in the Bristol Channel
make racing quite challenging. Racing takes place on about 51 week-ends, and also within Cardiff Bay on Tuesday evenings when
there is sufficient light (19.00 hrs start).
Crew places are usually easily found for
enthusiastic sailors, even with limited or no
experience, for most skippers are used to training
crews. Typically we had 15 to 20
yachts racing..
Come and join us!
